APA's principal interests in the Northern Territory are held through a 96% interest in the Amadeus Gas Trust and 100% ownership of two laterals. APA manages and operates the 1629km pipeline that is leased from a consortium of financial institutions, the terms of which expire in 2011. The lease payments are funded by a tariff charged to the Northern Territory Power and Water Corporation.

Gas is transported from the Amadeus Basin in Central Australia principally to power generation (94%) customers in the NT. The market for gas fired power generation in the Northern Territory has grown steadily over the past decade and it is expected that the market will continue to grow.

Due to the nature of the existing gas contracts, the revenue of the Amadeus Gas Pipeline is largely insensitive to changes in the gas market.

A key feature of the Amadeus Gas Pipeline is its potential for use as a north/south conduit between Timor Sea gas and south east Australia.
